About Me

When I began this lifestyle change, I was a thirty-three year old male, who was very out of shape. Being fat felt like crap, and wanted a change. I asked the love of my life to marry me on September 7th of 2012 in front of the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco and since that day our lives have been consumed by wedding planning, work, our daughter, and life in general. As most women do for their wedding day, she began working out more and began “encouraging” me to do the same. I was reluctant to go with her because while I kind of liked lifting weights, I never cared too much for working out, and I especially despised cardio workouts. However, at that moment in time, I had reached 270lbs which was the heaviest I had ever been. Something needed to change.

I knew that my pants were feeling tight and that my shirts were hugging my belly and sides a little more snug, but I hadn’t realized how much weight that I had actually put on. When  my fiancé and I had met three years ago, I only weighed 220lbs and I felt great. However, in three short years, that had all changed. I was becoming winded from walking up the stairs, hell even if I talked to quickly. I would eat just about anything, and in which ever quantity it was served to me. I would also drink a Monster or two a day, plus soda’s, never any water, and way to much coffee with entirely to much creamer and sugar added to it. I never worked out. I never went for walks. My exercise was walking across the mall parking lot to get to my job and the occasional rounds of golf in the summertime. It’s not any way to lead your life if you ask me now, but it was my reality. Sadly, too many American’s do live their lives this very same way and I was guilty of following the herd mentality.

I have the privilege to work along side of some amazing, healthy people and I became curious about their diet and lifestyles that had made them so healthy. I wanted to know everything on how they ate, how they worked out, how they socialized, and how they stayed in seemingly such good health without all the hours at the gym. Whenever I get hung up on a topic, I divulge as much information about that topic as possible. Its like I have an addiction to it. (My fiancé hates it at times, but she embraces my quirk to the best of her ability.) I then started searching Netflix for all the food and health related documentaries that I could find. It was during that process that I came across a few specific documentaries that blew me away. The first was about the Gerson Therapy. If you have never heard about this, you should absolutely watch “The Gerson Miracle”, it changed my thinking on how the right foods are so important to a healthy life. The second documentary that altered my point of view on food was “Food Matters”, again mind blowing. The third documentary and the reason I know own and use a juicer on a daily basis was called “Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead”. After watching this documentary I decided to set my new lifestyle of healthy eating and of healthy being into motion. These movies definitely helped to propel me into my new lifestyle. I found all of them inspiring, life changing, and motivating. Sometimes we all need a jump start, and watching these three documentaries in conjunction with my upcoming wedding date were mine.

I appreciate all the help, encouragement, and support from everyone. I will continue to update the recipes and plan that I am following. Feel free to email me any time. If you have anything that you wish to contribute, please let me know! May your goals become a reality!

  1. My pants are feeling tight, but I haven’t gained any weight… Hey Dave, great blog. Congrats on the weight loss. By my calculations, in 4 to 5 years you should be down to zero!
